    Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices - 600 Hours – SOC Code 15-1142

    1. Describe the operation of data networks. ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Recognize the purpose and functions of various network devices such as routers, switches, bridges and hubs.

      1. Select the components required to meet a given network specification.

      1. Identify common applications and their impact on the network.

      1. Describe the purpose and basic operation of the protocols in the OSI and TCP/IP models.

      1. Predict the data flow between two hosts across a network.

      1. Identify the appropriate media, cables, ports, and connectors to connect Cisco network devices to other network devices and hosts in a LAN.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in LAN Switching Technologies. ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Determine the technology and media access control method for Ethernet networks.

      1. Identify basic switching concepts and the operation of Cisco switches.

      1. Configure and verify initial switch configuration including remote access management.

      1. Describe how VLANs create logically separate networks and the need for routing between them.

      1. Configure and verify VLANs.

      1. Configure and verify trunking on Cisco switches.

    1. Understand, IP addressing (IPv4/IPv6) ̶ The student will be able to

      1. Describe the operation and necessity of using private and public IP addresses for IPv4 addressing.

      1. Identify the appropriate IPv6 addressing scheme to satisfy addressing requirements in a LAN/WAN environment.

      1. Identify the appropriate IPv4 addressing scheme using VLSM and summarization to satisfy addressing requirements in a LAN/WAN environment.

      1. Describe the technological requirements for running IPv6 in conjunction with IPv4.

      1. Describe IPv6 addresses.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in IP Routing Technologies. ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Describe basic routing concepts.

      1. Configure and verify utilizing the CLI to set basic Router configuration.

      1. Configure and verify operation status of an Ethernet interface.

      1. Verify router configuration and network connectivity using.

      1. Configure and verify routing configuration for a static or default route given specific routing requirements.

      1. Differentiate methods of routing and routing protocols.

      1. Configure and verify OSPF (single area).

      1. Configure and verify interVLAN routing (router on a stick).

      1. Configure SVI interfaces.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in IP Services. ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Configure and verify DHCP (IOS router).

      1. Describe the types, features, and applications of ACLs.

      1. Configure and verify ACLs in a network environment.

      1. Identify the basic operation of NAT.

      1. Configure and verify NAT for given network requirements.

      1. Configure and verify NTP as a client.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in Network Device Security ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Configure and verify network device security features.

      1. Configure and verify switch port security.

      1. Configure and verify ACLs to filter network traffic.

      1. Configure and verify ACLs to limit telnet and SSH access to the router.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in Troubleshooting VLANs, Trunking and ACLs. ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Troubleshoot and correct common problems associated with IP addressing and host configurations.

      1. Troubleshoot and resolve VLAN problems.

      1. Troubleshoot and resolve trunking problems on Cisco switches.

      1. Troubleshoot and resolve ACL issues.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in LAN Switching Technologies. ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Identify enhanced switching technologies (RSTP, PRSTP, VSTP, Etherchannels).

      1. Configure and verify PVSTP operation.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in IP Routing Technologies ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Describe the boot process of Cisco IOS routers.

      1. Configure and verify the operation status of a serial interface.

      1. Manage Cisco IOS files.

      1. Differentiate methods of routing and routing protocols.

      1. Configure and verify OSPF (multi-area).

      1. Configure and verify EIGRP (single AS).

      1. Passive Interface.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in IP Services ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Recognize high availability (FHRP).

      1. Configure and verify syslog.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting network problems. ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Identify and correct common network problems.

      1. Utilize netflow data.

      1. Troubleshoot and resolve spanning tree operation issues.

      1. Troubleshoot and resolve routing issues.

      1. Troubleshoot and resolve OSPF problems.

      1. Troubleshoot and resolve EIGRP problems.

      1. Troubleshoot and resolve inter VLAN routing problems.

      1. Troubleshoot and resolve WAN implementation issues.

      1. Monitor NetFlow statistics.

      1. TS etherchannel problems.

    1. Demonstrate proficiency in WAN Technologies. ̶ The student will be able to:

      1. Identify different WAN Technologies.

      1. Configure and verify a basic WAN serial connection.

      1. Configure and verify a PPP connection between Cisco routers.

      1. Configure and verify Frame Relay on Cisco routers.

      1. Implement and troubleshoot PPPoE.
