Long Bio
Composer Sehyung Kim was born in 1987 in Almaty (Kazakhstan). From the age of 16 started to compose under Bakir Bayakhunov at the P.I.Tchaikovsky Almaty music collage, where he studied as a musicologist. From 2007 till 2012 was studying at the Moscow State Conservatory in composition department by Vlaslav Agafonnikov. He also studied there with Dmitri Kourlianski (composition) and Yuri Kasparov (instrumentation). From 2013 he is a student of professor Beat Furrer (music composition) at the University of music and performing arts in Graz.
Sehyung has been awarded prizes at international competitions «DuoSolo» (Oklahoma, 2010), «Step to the left» (Saint-Petersburg, 2012), «de la ville de Boulogne-Billancourt» (Paris, 2014). Also he participated at the 45th and 47th international summer courses in Darmstadt (Germany, 2010 and 2014), the 2nd, 4th and 5th international academy of young composers in Tchaikovsky city (Perm krai, 2012, 2014, 2015), the 2nd Ukarinian Biennale for New Music (Kiev, 2013), the 8th international Enssemble and Composers Academy for Contemporary Music «Impuls» in Graz (Austria, 2013), the third international young music festival "Exposition-XXI" (Nizhny Novgorod, 2013).
He had an experience of studying and having a master-classes from such composers as George Aperghis (France), Brian Ferneyhough (Great Britain), Pierluigi Billone (Italy), Mark Andre (France/Germany), Klaus Lang (Austria), Georg Friedrich Haas (Austria), Chaya Czernowin (Israel) and many others.
Among performers are: GAM-Ensemble, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (MCME), Studio of New Music (Moscow), ensemble «eNsemble» (Saint-Petersburg), ensemble «Nostri Temporis» (Ukraine), dissonArt ensemble (Greese), ensemble «Batida» (Switzerland), «Schallfeld» ensemble (Austria), ensemble «Szene Instrumental» (Austria), soloists Sergej Tchirkov (accordion), Natalia Pschenitschnikova (voice), Valentin Garvie (trompet) and many others.
Commissions from the many ammount of projects and festivals as «tax free» (Saint-Petersburg, 2010), «Live track» (Moscow, 2010), «Difficulties of Translation» (Moscow, 2011), «Another space» (Moscow, 2013), «Magister Ludi» (2013), «Moscow Autumn» (Moscow, 2014), «Impuls» (Austria, 2014), «Re:Music» (Saint-Petersburg, 2015), «Kasachische Perlen» (Graz, 2016) and others.
His music is performing in many cities in Russia (Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Surgut, Yakutsk, Perm, Tchaikovsky, etc.) and in many other countries, such as USA, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, South Korea and others.
In 2007 was his first portrait concert in Kazakh State Conservatory (Almaty, Kazakhstan)
In 2010 was published in a book «Young Russian composers» by «Kompozitor» edition (Moscow, Russia)
In 2012 signed a first contract with a publisher «Babel Scores» (Paris, France)
In 2013 got a scholarship from the 8th international Ensemble and Composers Academy for Contemporary Music «Impuls» in Graz (Austria, 2013).
In 2013 was a composer in residence in GAM-Ensemble (Moscow, Russia)
In september 2013 was invited by Kazakh State Conservatory named after Kurmangazy to read a cycle of a lectures
Sehyung is an author of some music articles about the contemporary music and a performance techniques. Some of his works are published in a «New Music Newspaper» (Kazakhstan).
