Installation
WARNING: If you are installing an upgrade, you should ALWAYS run Fix and Optimize before upgrading. If you have not done this, we strongly recommend doing so before proceeding.
Intelliform installs easily on most computers and will usually take only a few minutes. However, if you need help, email us at techsupport@intelliform.net.
Intelliform is written using Microsoft’s Visual Foxpro 9 and requires Windows XP, Windows 2000 Pro SP2, Windows 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 2008, or Windows 7/8. We do NOT support Windows 98, Windows ME, or 2000/XP HOME edition, although it should run OK on them. Vista Starter Edition is not supported and probably will NOT support networking
The following instructions apply to both installations and upgrades. If you are installing the program on a network, it is important that you follow the Network Instructions below.
When you re-install or upgrade the program, only the program files are affected, not your data files. Your data files will retain all of the information you have already entered. Also make sure no one is running the program when you install. You can shutdown all other users from Admin -> Shutdown Users.

Although you are allowed to change where the program is installed, do NOT install the program under “Documents and Settings”, “My Documents”, “Program Files”, “Windows”, or any of the Windows protected directories since this may result in the program not working due to permissions and/or who is logged in.
Intelliform will automatically create a desktop Icon for you.
After setup is complete, run the program by double clicking on the Intelliform Icon. You will be given a message that Intelliform will complete the installation; answer Yes to do it.
Network Installation
One computer on the network must be the server. The server can be running any of the above operating system versions (except Vista Starter Edition). The server can actually be most other server operating system (e.g. Linux) if the server is not used as a workstation.
We recommend that the server not be used as a workstation. On small networks (less than 10 stations), a peer-to-peer network will operate very well as long as the computer acting as the server is not used for anything else (i.e. nobody uses it). On small networks the server does not have to be your most powerful computer and, in fact, can probably be your least powerful computer.
NOTE: on networks with high usage, we recommend that write caching be turned off; please see LOCKING.RTF in your Intelliform docs directory.
Where to Install Your Intelliform Files
You must install to a directory on the server. You can do this from any machine on the network. If your server is a windows machine, it is easiest to install the software from the server itself. If you are installing from a client machine, change the default to the network drive; e.g. change C:\APPS\IFORM to N:\\IFORM.
Each workstation can then be setup to run the program on the server. This can be done two ways. On way is to merely create an icon that points to the program on the server. The properties would have the Target and Start In lines point to the server.
The other way is to install the program from each machine to the installation directory on the server. The installation directory for each workstation must be the same server directory. Depending on how your workstations are set up, the path can be different for each workstation (e.g. on workstation A, the location is seen as N:\APPS\IFORM while on workstation B the same location could be M:\IFORM).
NOTE: On each client workstation, you should install to a mapped network drive, not to the UNC directory (eg. Install to M:\ IFORM, not to \\SERVER\APPS\ IFORM. The reason for this is that a few parts of the program work better with a mapped drive letter.
WARNING: For security reasons, beginning with version 6, the installation program does NOT allow the program to be installed in the root directory of any drive, including any mapped drives. Also, for security reasons, we do not recommend sharing the root directory of the server.
Recommended Server Setup:
On the server, create a directory that Intelliform and/or other network programs will be installed under. For example, C:\APPS on the server.
Do NOT create the directory under “Documents and Settings”, “My Documents”, “Program Files”, “Windows”, or under any of the Windows protected directories since this may result in the program not working due to permissions and/or who is logged in.
Share this directory and give full permissions to all authorized users.
Install the software to a location in this directory. For example, C:\APPS\IFORM. If this server is not a windows machine, intall the software to this location from a client.
On each client, map the shared server directoy to a drive letter. For example, you would map the resource \\SERVER\APPS to N:
On each client, create an icon to run the program as explained above, or install again to N:\IFORM (multiple installs are ok).
This will result in the program being installed into \\SERVER\APPS\IFORM.
