Operate Phase
Once software has been installed, the “operate” phase involves tasks, such as setting up security policies for specific groups of users, creating a backup of important data, and setting up restore processes. This is where the Active Directory service (an LDAP directory service) has made tremendous improvements. Windows Server integrates directory services with standards-based security services to simplify identity management and enable single sign-on across an enterprise. Administrators desiring the use of terminal services or the built-in Web server need only to click a check box to enable them. These capabilities are now built into the Windows platform as simple, integrated, out of the box tools with the same look and feel.
