Creating an Internet Explorer Desktop Shortcut to Banner
You may find it easier to access Banner from an icon on your desktop rather having to launch a browser window and navigating through your favorites for the Banner URL. The directions below will walk you through creating an icon for the desktop using Internet Explorer (IE).
-
Launch Internet Explorer
-
Access the URL for Banner INB (www.ewu.edu/banner/secure/links)
-
Click and drag the icon next to the URL for Banner to the desktop (you will need to be able to see the desktop to do this).
-
Rename the shortcut by right clicking on the shortcut and selecting rename.
-
Test the new shortcut.
An Internet Explorer window should open pointing to the URL for Banner.
If you had a window to IE already open and when you launched your shortcut to Banner it used that window instead of opening a new one you may need to change a setting in IE. The steps below will help you make the necessary change to have your IE shortcuts use their own window.
-
Launch Internet Explorer
-
Click on Tools > Internet Options > Advanced (tab at the top)
-
Under the section labeled “Browsing” scroll down to the item “Re-use windows for launching shortcuts” and click on the check box to de-select it.
-
Click on the Apply button.
-
Click OK to close the Internet Options window.
Now when you launch any IE shortcut from your desktop it will open a new window!
