Recent evidence suggests that the IT industry is poised to recover from the recession faster than any other sector.

The Government’s Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) has defined 290 different IT job roles. These are organised into categories:

The current Government’s Digital Britain programme could also have a major impact on the UK jobs market. Its aims are fourfold: to modernise our communications infrastructure; develop a new legal framework; improve inclusion at all levels of society and modernise government through the use of technology.

  • The average IT trainee earns around £30,000. Your salary will be directly related to your qualifications and experiences, so once you’ve finished your training your salary will increase accordingly.

Working in IT does not necessarily mean working for a startup or a technology solutions provider. IT spans industries, and jobs abound in the private, public and nonprofit sectors. Nonprofits, health care organizations and universities all need smart people to join their IT teams. Choose your own adventure, and work in a field that fuels your passion. And you'll get to pick where you'll make your mark.
