6.4 Communications Subsystem
The communications subsystem is the most complex subsystem within the VoIPv6 application. Its mission is to establish and maintain calls in terms of both signalling and control and in terms of transmitting and receiving audio data blocks.
There are three distinct parts of the communications subsystem; the setup section, the section to deal with audio transmission and also the section to deal with call initialisation and control.
6.4.1 Communications Setup Functions
The setup function comms_initiate deals with setting up the communications sub system in terms of preparing the semaphores and creating and executing the comms_uithread which deals with communications between the user interface subsystem and the communications subsystem.
