    SBK-related differences
The following differences are present in the way the OPKWIZ program behaves. The text also addresses distinctions that exist between the preinstallation process for Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows 98.

    • The wizard for Windows 98 Second Edition has three more screens than the wizard in Windows 98 does. (There were 15 screens for the wizard in the first edition.) The three additional screens in Windows 98 Second Edition are:

    • In Configure Legacy Device Class Detection, under the details of “sound, midi, or video capture card,” one new device class had been added to the default list; previously there were eight classes.

    • In the Windows 98 Setup Options screen, there are now two radio buttons and one check box (the golden release had two check boxes). The functionality has essentially remained the same.

    • The application preinstallation launcher screen has one less default entry than what it had in the first edition. “Setup printer” has been taken out of the new application preinstallation launcher.

    • In the Customize OEM Channel Bar screen, the check box to let the system builder disable the Internet Explorer Channel Bar has been removed.

    • In the Internet Explorer Favorites list, apart from the OEM recommended sites, three new entries are added by default:

    • The Customize Internet Explorer screen is new to the wizard in Windows 98 Second Edition. Default URLs for “home page,” “search page,” and “help page” can now be added automatically to the version of Internet Explorer 5 that is preinstallable with Windows 98 Second Edition.

    • The same page also provides functionality to add a specialized browser toolbar as a part of the Internet Explorer 5 customization process. Clicking the Add button brings up a screen with five edit boxes to be filled out to correctly install a custom toolbar.

    • The Select ISP Signup Option, another new screen in the Windows 98 Second Edition wizard, lets the System Builder decide how to handle ISP signup during the Windows Welcome process. Four radio buttons specify the four options provided to the customer.

    • If the fourth radio button (Display a precached list of ISP offers) is selected, an edit box needs to be filled out with the path to the directory where the cache files are residing. The program looks for a file called Ispsgnup.htm in the specified folder.

    • There is an option to specify a secondary set of ISP signup files; this is designed for end users who skip the ISP signup offer during Windows Welcome. The second set is launched when the user clicks the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop. If this check box is selected, a similar path needs to be provided. This time a file called Dtsgnup.htm is searched for in the specified directory.
