3. Distributed authoring with BSCW
The emphasis of the BSCW system is on flexible information sharing within a distributed work group, independent of the type of information to be shared and the purposes to which it is put. We have therefore developed general mechanisms for document upload, version management and so on integrated with features like (server-side) document format conversion. We now describe these solutions and in the following section discuss this work in the context of standards for Web-based distributed authoring.
