    2 For example, the HTTP protocol requires the length of the HTTP body to be given in the ÔContent-lengthÕ header field for a POST request. This requires totalling the size of the documents to send plus separators and other fields in the multipart message before transmission can begin.



    3àThe Òlost-updateÓ phenomenon occurs whenever two users, while attempting to modify a document, both read the documentÕs old contents before either of them writes the documentÕs new contents.
