A former project in cooperation with IBM a new, ambitious operating system with the computer world at the end of the 1980s. End this collaboration IBM continued a while the versions from 2.0. Later NT emerged from the development of OS/2.

The first GUI (graphical user interface [graphic user interface]) from Microsoft. Instead of laboriously individually type the commands, you could now run commands with a mouse. An achievement was also multi tasking, the parallel running of programs. However, it was not real at the time, Windows continued to simply all programmes up to the active.
