Considerations
When designing pie charts, the wedges start at the 12 o’clock position and keep their
same relative positions, that is, they don’t change location with changing size or impor-
tance. Of course, colors chosen for the wedges must harmonize with one another; a
wedge that is consistently small might be shown in a lighter or more intense color. The
12 o’clock position is oriented to the margins of the map; if meridians are shown or
fIgURe 9.4.
