Information about the UNIX operating system.
UNIX (pronounced: unix; UNIX is a registered trademark of The Open Group[1]) is a family of portable, multitasking, and multiuser operating systems developed by Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, and others at Bell Labs in the 1970s. ) based on ideas from the original AT&T Unix project. The Multics operating system had a great influence on the creation of the Unix system.
Unix operating systems are characterized by a modular design, in which each task is performed by a separate utility, communication is carried out through a single file system, and the command line is used to work with utilities.
The idea of Unix greatly influenced the development of computer operating systems. Unix systems are now recognized as one of the most important operating systems in history.
Uniqueness
The main difference between Unix-like systems and other operating systems is that they are originally considered multi-user, multi-tasking systems. In Unix, many people can work at the same time, each at their own terminal (a tool for issuing commands to perform tasks), while each of them can run many different computing processes that use the resources of that computer.
The second major advantage of Unix is its cross-platform nature. The core of the system is designed in such a way that it can be easily adapted to almost any microprocessor.
