Erst der aktuelle Client 4.9 hebt das bisherige Limit von 4 GB pro Datei auf.
Dazu muss allerdings auch ein NetWare Server ab NetWare 6.0 mit aktuellen Support Packs eingesetzt werden.
Genauere Infos (vorerst in Englisch):
• The NSS design does indeed use 64bit values everywhere and so allows file sizes bigger than 4GB
• With the release of Nw 5.0, Novell does indeed include NSS which in theory allows to use files bigger than 4GB. However at the time of the NW 5.0 release, Novell didn't even have an API to handle files bigger than 4GB. So while NSS in theory supported it, it was absolutely impossible to write a program that could actually use this feature.
• Later in the Nw 5.x life cycle, Novell added the new 64bit file APIs to their CLIB. This now allowed selected server based applications to handle files bigger than 4GB. However those applications had to be specially written for the new API
• All the time, the NCP protocol used by Novell clients to access the servers was not ready for 64bit file access. 64bit support was only added on the server side in NW6SP1 (or maybe SP2) and on the client side with the 4.90 client.
Diese Punkte führen uns zu folgenden Möglichkeiten:
• NW 5.x: 64bit Support (und damit Dateien größer als 4 GB) für serverbasierte Anwendungen, die speziell mit den neuen APIs geschrieben wurden. Kein 64bit Support für Clients
• NW 6.0: teilweise 64bit Support. Einige Protokolle unterstützen ihn, andere nicht
• NW 6.5: voller 64bit Support für alle Protokolle, für die es erforderlich ist
3.2.39 Passwörter

NetWare Versionen können mit Bordmitteln nicht zwischen "guten" und "schlechten" Passwörtern unterscheiden. Sie können zwar festlegen, dass Passwörter mit bestimmten Mindestlängen benutzt werden müssen und diese - falls gewünscht - nach vordefinierter Zeit vom Benutzer wieder gewechselt werden müssen, aber weitergehende Prüfungen sind nicht möglich.
Marcus Williamson von Connectotel hat das Password Policy Management Tool entwickelt, das sich sowohl als Snap-In für NWAdmin und ConsoleOne als auch clientseitig einklinkt und die Passwörter prüft.
