Note: Please use the following updated installation instructions in place of the instructions provided in the F5U002 user manual.
Note: Before beginning the F5U002 installation process, make sure the most recent drivers provided your printer manufacturer are properly installed. Consult your printer manual for instructions.
F5U002 Installation for Windows 98/98SE

Turn on your computer. When Windows has finished loading insert the F5U002 installation CD into your CD-ROM drive.

After a few moments the installer will auto-load and begin the installation process. Click “Next”.

Windows will install the required drivers. Click “Finish”.

Plug the F5U002 parallel printer connector into the parallel port on your printer, then plug the USB connector into your computer, or a USB hub. The “Add New Hardware Wizard” should appear, click next.

Choose “ Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)”.

Uncheck all of the search options and click next.

The wizard will find drivers for, “USB Print Support”, click next and installation will finish.

Reboot your computer, then click the Start Menu that is found in the lower left hand corner of your Windows display. Select “Settings”, then “Printers”.

Select your printer from the list of available printers, right click on the printer and select “Properties”, then click on the Details tab.

Where it states, “ Print using the following port”, use the drop down arrow and choose, “USB001 Virtual printer port for USB”, if you have more than one USB printer cable or have installed the cable several times, you may see other USB parallel ports like USB002, and USB003. Choose the correct number based on the order that you have installed the cables.

On the same tab, click on, Spool Settings and make sure, Disable bi-directional support is selected, (if it is an option), and click Apply.

Your printer is now ready to print!
F5U002 Installation for Windows ME

Plug the parallel printer connector into the parallel port on your printer, then plug the USB connector into your computer, or a USB hub. Windows will automatically install “USB Printer Support”. No further user intervention is required.

Click the Start Menu that is found in the lower left hand corner of your Windows display. Select “Control Panel”, then “Printers and Other Hardware”, then “View installed printers or fax printers”.

Select your printer from the list of available printers, right click on your printer and select “Properties”, then click on the Ports tab.

Where it states, “ Print to the following port(s)”, put a check mark in the box in front of, “USB001 Virtual printer port for USB”, if you have more than one USB printer cable or have installed the cable several times, you may see other USB parallel ports like USB002, and USB003. Choose the correct number based on the order that you have installed the cables.

Locate the option, “ Enable bi-directional support”, and uncheck it if it is already checked. Click on, “Apply”.

Your printer is now ready to print!
