Group Scheduling via the Internet
In addition to providing advanced Group Scheduling with Exchange Server, Outlook is also a leader in supporting the iCalendar Internet standard, so users can now easily share calendar free/busy information, and send and receive meeting requests and responses over the Internet.
Free/Busy
As shown in the following figure, users of Outlook 2000 have the option to easily publish their free/busy information, in iCalendar standard format, to a user-specified URL. For Exchange Server users, free/busy information can be concurrently published to both Exchange Server and the Internet.
Free/Busy Options for Internet mail users
Users can easily access free/busy information from invitees within their own organization on Exchange Server as well as external invitees who use Outlook 2000 or another iCalendar-compliant application via the Internet. The path (URL) to an Internet invitee’s free/busy information is stored in the Contact record in Outlook for that invitee.
The following figure shows the Meeting Planner in Outlook. Free/busy information for Exchange Server users and external iCalendar users is consolidated into a single view used for finding a free time.
