Wireless Fidelity, commonly known as Wi-Fi, has become an integral part of modern life, providing wireless connectivity to a myriad of devices ranging from smartphones and laptops to smart home appliances and IoT devices. At the heart of Wi-Fi technology lies the IEEE 802.11 standard, which defines the specifications for wireless LAN (Local Area Network) communication. This introduction delves into the evolution, significance, and fundamental principles of Wi-Fi technology based on the IEEE 802.11 standard.
Evolution of Wi-Fi:
Wi-Fi technology has evolved significantly since its inception. Initially introduced in the late 1990s, Wi-Fi operated under the IEEE 802.11a and 802.11b standards, offering relatively low data rates and limited coverage. Over the years, subsequent iterations such as 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11ac, and the latest 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) have brought substantial improvements in terms of data throughput, range, reliability, and compatibility with a wide array of devices.
