importance of
learning English for students, the influence of English on the learners’ future jobs and how
much time they spend their time on learning English. There are 5 options in each question.
To the first question (How important is English?) most students from both group marked the options
“(c) important”, “(d) more important” and “(e) most important”, which shows that they understand the role
of English in today’s world (Table 1).

a) not at all
0%
b) somewhat
2%
c)

From the Table 2, it can be seen that majority of the students need English for their job. As mentioned
above these students’ major is English and obtaining this language is a must.
Table 3
Question: 2
The response of students in percentages
How many hours do you study English in a day?
a) not at all
0%
b)
less than one hour
18%
c) one hour
30%
d)

35%
e) more than two hours
17%
Table 3 shows the amount of time spending learning English by the students in per day. 18% students
spend less than hour for studying English, while 30% learners only one hour in a day. The percentages of the
students who are learning this language for two hours is 35. However, the number of the students who spend
more than two hours is not many, 17%.
Overall, it can be concluded that though many students know that leaning English is the requirement
of today’s time and it is needed for their future job, not many of them spend their time to study it.
Part III is about reading skills. In this part students should choose the answer to the questions which
seek how much time they spend on reading, what materials they read from, what methods they apply on the
process of reading and how they understand the texts after reading.
This part was very helpful to find out about students’
reading skills, what kind of methods they use
while reading and how they understand what they have read.
For instance, to the following question: “Can you read a newspaper in English?” many students chose
the options (b), (c) and few of them (d) and none of them marked (e). This means that most students find this
kind of reading difficult for them (Table 4).
