Introduction. A questionnaire is a main Research tool that consists of questions or other types of
prompts that aims to collect information from a respondent. (QuestionPro) This research instrument can
include either written or oral questions and compose an interview-style format. The function of a
questionnaire is to gather appropriate data that meet the research objectives and make the data available for
analysis.
There are two types of a questionnaire: qualitative and quantitative which are vital methods that can be
combined in surveys to obtain effective and appropriate results.
Quantitative research methods are used to gather numerical data that can be aimed to measure
variables. Quantitative data is structured and statistical: its results are objective and conclusive. It uses a
grounded theory method that relies on data collection that is systematically analyzed. This research method
provides support to draw general conclusions from the research work and predict outcomes.
A qualitative questionnaire/survey is less structured research methodology which is aimed to obtain
in-depth information about people’s underlying reasoning and motivations. Using this survey gives
researchers to develop a deep understanding of a topic, issue, or problem from an individual perspective. A
qualitative survey is often used to come up with hypothesis, which is then tested using quantitative research.

Literature review. Arsenault and Anderson (1998) define qualitative research as “a form of inquiry
that explores phenomena in their natural settings and uses multi-methods to interpret, understand, explain
and bring meaning to them”. Bradley (1997, p.31) adds that qualitative research is one of the best methods
‘for the collection, analysis and interpretation of data on phenomena that are not easily reduced to numbers’.
Rossman and Rallis (2003) summarised the characteristics of qualitative research as the method of
collecting data in the natural world through using multiple tools. These characteristics help us understand the
researcher role in qualitative research. The method places the researcher ‘at the centre of data-gathering
phase’ in which s/he “is the instrument by which information is collected” (Lavrake and Roller, 2015, p.5).
