Configuration of a Firewall for Building Integration System (BIS)
1 Purpose
The intention of this document is to provide the information needed to successfully set up the BIS system in a firewall protected environment. Herein you will find the relevant settings concerning the Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 Firewall, but also the relevant settings for installing a third party firewall.
2 Setting up the Windows Firewall (Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
With service pack 2 for Windows XP systems, Microsoft released its own firewall. This firewall is not as limited as other personal firewalls. It does not monitor outbound port usage, nor is it bothered by internal communications. Thus the set up requirements for BIS server products behind the Windows firewall are rather simple.
For Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 it is assumed, that the default settings for the Outbound Rules are set in the Windows Firewall.
