Reading Warm-Up.

This activity helps prepare students for reading by getting them to predict
details of the text through the title.
Preparation.
Identify a text that is at a suitable level for your students. Make sure the text has a title.
Procedure
1. Write the title of the text on the board.
2. Have students write five questions they believe a text with this title should answer.
3. Instruct them to also write at least five vocabulary words they believe would be found in a text with this
title. Clarify that the words should be beyond
the, a, and,
etc.
4. Distribute the text for students to read and check their predictions.
5. Go over students’ predictions and discuss the results and the main idea of the text.
Variations
1. Selected questions and vocabulary words could be written on the board, and the predictions could be done
as a plenary with the whole class prior to the reading.
2. Students could be grouped to foster collaboration.
3. If the title is a play on words, it could be a model for students to create titles for texts that are also a play
on words.
By incorporating these techniques into your children's reading experience, you can help them develop
strong writing skills and a deeper appreciation of literature. Reading not only improves children's
imagination and creativity, but also provides valuable insights into the craft of writing.
Vocabulary and language skills: Reading introduces children to a wide range of vocabulary and
language structures that they can then incorporate into their writing. By reading different types of texts,
children can learn to use figurative language, dialogue, and figurative language effectively in their stories.
Story Structure: Through reading, children can learn about the basic elements of a story, such as
setting, characters, plot, conflict, and resolution. They can also observe how authors structure their stories
and use techniques such as foreshadowing, flashbacks, and cliffhangers to draw readers in.

Creativity and Imagination: Reading stimulates creativity and imagination in children by exposing
them to different worlds, characters and situations. It can inspire them to create their own unique stories and
develop their storytelling skills.
As children ended up utilized to the method of 'boxing up' at that point they
can start to work on straightforward but well-defined stories. For occurrence, “Adventure at Cambray Park”
and “Kidnapped” both give straightforward story designs that can be fairly easily distinguished and after that
utilized as a premise for the children to compose their possess form.
