Remember your jurisdiction
Often e-commerce transcends boundaries of multiple nations. Therefore, if the website is
selling in EU, it is bound by EU rules. But if it is handling the customers of some other
nation, the rules change. As a seller, the website must take extra care that the tax laws
are not violated for a particular country while selling goods to a national of that country.
Privacy matters
A lot of personal information is accepted and provided on the e-commerce websites. This
data ranges from personal data to credit/debit card details. One should not fall into the
trap of thinking that all business information taken from millions of customers and
suppliers is simply personal data.
Comply with the rules on sending
A website should not send direct marketing emails to individuals who have agreed to
receive it from you by directly opting in. Also, it needs to provide an option of subscribing
or unsubscribing, so that individual can toggle between their
choice of receiving and
refusing the periodic advertisement email.
