Customizable Views and Forms, and Objects in Outlook

Views and forms in Outlook — the tools used to inspect and modify the information stored in Outlook or Microsoft Exchange Server — can be customized for individual use or for use in collaborative applications. Outlook contains an integrated set of forms-design tools that advanced end users and developers can use to create new forms for use in personal information management, information sharing and workflow and tracking applications with Microsoft Exchange Server. Developers can extend their custom forms using the Visual Basic® development system Scripting Edition (VBScript) and ActiveX Controls. Outlook forms can also be extended for use in a Web browser when Outlook is used with Microsoft Exchange Server and the Microsoft Internet Information Services of Windows NT® Server.
The data and functionality in Outlook can be included in applications using the Outlook object model, which is a collection of objects and methods based on the feature set of Outlook. The object model is primarily designed for developers using Visual Basic and Office 97 who want to include messaging, contact management and collaboration features in their applications.
The combination of these architectural elements with a focus on the everyday activities of users has made Outlook a powerful, flexible and easy-to-use tool for organizing and communicating information.
