199-4 Samuel (4th child of Matthew & Mary Burris) md. Mary (4th

dau. of William & Ann (Simpson) McLachlan) of Stewiacke on Oct.

3, 1871. Her father was born in Stirlingshire & her mother in

Banffshire, Scotland. Samuel Burris, his elder brother William

and Samuel Braden, all of Musquodoboit were married, on the same

day - a triple wedding - in St. James Presbyterian Church,

Dartmouth. William Burris md. Emma Jean MacNab and Samuel

Braden was md. to Susan Braden. After the marriage the three

couples went to Boston by boat where the party broke up; Samuel

Burris & his wife returned to their home in Musquodoboit, while

the other two couples went directly to Colorado. Samuel Burris

moved to Vancouver about 1910 where he continued in active

business until the day of his death in 1914. Six children:

Matthew Guild was a descendant of William Guild. Ellen Ervin was

They lived for some years in Kamloops, B.C. and later on in

Vancouver.

225-6 Edith Archibald b. Aug. 1890 (6th child of Samuel & Mary

Burris). She md. Augustus John Wilfred Morley at Palm Springs,

Calif. One dau. Patricia Jane.
200-5 John (4th son of Matthew & Mary Burris). When about 18

years of age he went to sea. The first vessel on which he sailed

was the Barque "Bluenose" of Princeport, Captain Rettie was

master. He received his Masters Certificate at Halifax on Aug.

2, 1872. Finally retiring from seafaring life he purchased a

farm in Middle Musquodoboit, house owned by Thomas Doucette,

1980, where he spent the remainder of his days. He died May 26,

1924 and his wife Margaret died Sept. 20, 1917. John married

Margaret Sutherland of Gay's River. They had 11 children.

is a school teacher & lives in Winnipeg.

Burris) b Feb 28, 1887. He md. Margaret Faye

Rutherford. They had one dau. Margaret.

Dr. M. G. Burris practiced medicine and surgery in

Dartmouth until his death.

He wrote "My Pioneer Ancestors".


244-7 Adam Dunlap (7th child of George & Jane Burris) b

Feb. 28, 1887. He md. 1st Jean Archibald (dau. Of

Adams Archibald of Middle Musquodoboit) No issue. His

died when she was three years of age. Matthew married 2nd

Elizabeth Redmond (dau. of John & Sarah (Henry) Redmond of Dean)

on June 10, 1884. Mary Jane md. Adams J. Archibald of South

Branch, Col. Co., N.S. They had one dau. Emma b 1885

Adams Archibald went to Boston in April 1886. He contracted

yellow fever, died, and was buried there. In 1892, Mary Jane md.

John McFetridge (his 2nd wife). No issue.


William Archibald


1. William (1st son of John and Margaret Fisher Archibald)

settled on the eastern half of the John Archibald grant in Upper

Musquodoboit in 1795. (This farm was later owned by William

Annand). William Archibald was born in Truro, September 19,

1774. He md. Susan (dau. of William & Dorothy Putnam) on January

29, 1801.

He moved to the South Branch of Stewiacke about 1826 and settled

on the farm where his son John later resided. He died Nov. 10,

1850 aged 76 years and his wife Mary died May 23, 1871 aged 89

years. They had 5 sons and 5 daus.
