James Drady
James Drady took up a grant of 300 acres in Middle
Musquodoboit on March1, 1787. His grant was west of John
Braden's. Three men, John Braden, James Drady and Patrick Creigh
each took up grants of land on March 1, 1787and next to each
other, this makes it appear they knew each other quitewell and
were perhaps friends in Ireland before coming herearound 1783.
James Drady worked in Halifax as a carpenter and his will refers
to carpenter tools. If he lived in Musquodoboit it was for a
short period. Then in Upper Musquodoboit William Drady took up a
grant of 88 acres on Mill Lake. James had 3 sons and 3 daus.

came to Meagher's Grant. The date of their arrival is not know.
John Dunbrack is known, however, as the first settler in
Meagher's Grant. He came through by way of Truro and down the
Musquodoboit River in a canoe. He settled first at Gibraltar and
afterwards at Meagher's Grant. He had the first frame house in

Ref: Early Settlers of Meagher's Grant by A.B. Lay 1922.
According to Church's Map of Halifax County 1860, a son Peter
Dunbrack lived on the home place between the homes of D. Byers
and S. Dickey on the old road, to Musquodoboit Harbour. Richard
Dunbrack (Dick) Peter's son was living in the old house when it
was destroyed by fire. The property is used as a pasture by Ross
and Ivan Dickie (1980). Roland McDonald came to Meagher's Grant
