William Guild (Gould)
The Guilds or Goulds came to Nova Scotia from Scotland,

but it is said that the family was originally of French origin,

possibly Huguenots.

William Guild was born in Sterling, 1745 and his wife

Jessie Kirk, was born 1745, in Aberdeenshire.

1. William Guild married Jessie Kirk in Scotland. They had 3

sons and 2 daus. It is said William Guild was the first white

settler in Middle Musquodoboit. His grant of land is dated March

1, 1787 - the date of his arrival in Middle Musquodoboit is not

known, as in those days some people lived on their land before

asking for a grant. A number of other settlers also took up

grants in this district on the same date. William came alone

from Scotland and a year later his wife and children arrived.

William, the pioneer settled where Melvin Higgins lives in 1980,

often called "The Sedgewick House". He built a log cabin, later

built a frame house.
