md. Mary Archibald McCurdy on May 27, 1886. He was a carpenter
and painter. He built the first post office in Middle
Musquodoboit, about 1900. Mr. Hanna built the Lou Murchy house
and numerous other houses. His home is now owned by Guy Fisk in
1980. Samuel died in 1926 and is buried in the Pioneer
Cemetery. His wife Mary A. McCurdy (1858-1918),
son Victor M. (1898-1919) and infant son who died 1894 are also

William Hay
William Hay was born in the Parish of Cromdale, Speyside,
Scotland. He came to Nova Scotia about 1803 with John and James
Cruickshank. He settled in Murchyville and carried on carriage
building and lumbering. With his sons he built a grist mill and
carding mill on the right side of the road to Shaw's Lake, on
Little River. William Hay married Susanna Cruickshank, whose
family also came from Cromdale. Her father's name was John
William William Hay is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery, he died
Jan. 2, 1870 age 77 years. Susanna died Feb. 6, 1836, age 37
years, and is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery. William and
Susanna had 2 sons and 3 daus.

John Higgins
John Higgins was born in Wiltshire, England. He enlisted in the
70th (East Surrey) Regiment of Foot, whilst that unit was
stationed at Leeds, Yorkshire. On 25 April, 1777 he was
transferred to the Grenadier Company under Captain George
Hewitt. He went to America in 1778 with the Regiment and was
discharged there on October 24, 1783, before the 70th Foot
returned to England. Before leaving for America 1778, he married
Hester Carmichael.
