was a half sister of F.R. Parker, the old Squire, and her mother

was a McHeffy. They lived on the farm now owned by Fisher, 1980

(Frank Fisk and Hudoffsky farm). The house stood on the old

road. Matthew and Ann had 3 sons and 3 daus.

Stewart, a sister of Mrs. McLeod, but she only lived a few

months. He continued to live alone, until he became old when he

moved over and spent his remaining days with his brother Thomas.

350-2 Thomas md. 1st Rachael Kaulback - no issue. He md. 2nd

Amelia Bates. Thomas built the house where Mr. Hudoffsky lives

in 1980. Thomas and Amelia had 3 sons and 1 dau.

He inherited the farm which he afterwards sold to Leland Lydiard

351-3 Frank inherited his father's property (Fisher, 1980). The

house stood on the old

road. Frank sold it to A. Caspion Day whose wife was daughter of

C. Demas Joudrey. He moved the buildings down to the new road

and sold the property in three pieces - the north part of Leland

Lydiard - the house and a few acres to James Rogers - the

remainder south of the road to Roy Archibald. Frank md. 1st

Libbie Kent who died Feb. 6, 1872 - age 28 years. They had 1

dau.

Their son, Alexander Stephen who md. Mary Ann Guild, was baptized

Apr. 30, 1814. He died Mar. 12, 1884.

Colonel Henry Arthur Gladwin


Note: Genealogical numbers, 1 to 7-1 inclusive, refer to Gladwin

family ancestors in England. Henry Arthur Gladwin, 8-2, was the

pioneer in Musquodoboit.
8-2 Henry Arthur Gladwin (2nd son of Charles and Frances Stanhope

Gladwin) was born in Fort William, Bengal, India, 1789. Educated

in Eton and Cambridge, he was Captain of the 19th Lancers, Fanes'

Horse, India and later Military Aide to Sir John Sherbrooke, with

whom he came to Canada. He married Charlotte Wollery Bourke Oct.

3, 1822, and in 1828 came to Nova Scotia with his wife and

mother. As an officer in the Army, he received a Grant of land

in Glenmore, but settled first on property he bought from "Good

Matthew Archibald". Later, he gave this to his son Bourke;

(owned by Smith Archibald, 1980). Colonel Gladwin then purchased

La Prairie farm from Captain Rayne and brought up his family,

there. He remained a very prominent man all his life

and died Feb. 23, 1881. He is buried in the family plot in Holy

Trinity Anglican cemetery along with his wife, several of their

children who died young, and his mother. In 1836 Col. H.A.

Gladwin and William Lawson contested the County of Halifax for

the Assembly but were defeated by the Liberal candidates, Joseph

Howe and William Annand. Col. H.A. Gladwin and Charlotte Bourke

had 6 sons and 7 daus.

Hugh Hanna


The earliest record known of this family is that they

were Scotch people living in Scotland, then moved to County

Antrim, Ireland, and shortly after that, Hugh Hanna and his wife

Elizabeth Griffiths Hanna (Welsh) with their 8 children came to

America. It is thought the Hannas came to Halifax in 1822, and

to Brookvale soon after. Hugh and Elizabeth had 3 sons and 5

daughters.

in Brookvale, now owned by Peter Van Whychen, 1980. They had 4

daus. and 1 son. The son died in infancy. Hugh is buried in the
