Jonathan, shortly after he was married, moved to Pleasant Valley
and had the mills at the foot of the lake. He moved from there
to Musquodoboit in 1824, where he spent the remainder of his days
at farming and milling. He died here in August 1861.
Matthew Taylor Archibald
1. Matthew Taylor Archibald was the second son of Matthew and
Janet Fisher Archibald, he was born in Truro, November 17, 1774.
He came to Middle Musquodoboit about 1800 along with his two
brothers, Adams and Samuel Fisher Archibald. On March 2, 1811,
he was granted 500 acres of land: this is the place so long
known as the Bourke Gladwin farm but now owned by Smith
Archibald, 1980. When Colonel Gladwin came to Middle
Musquodoboit he purchased this farm and Matthew moved south to
the farm where Smith now resides. On September 15, 1801 he md.
Jane (dau. of William Guild). He was called Good Matthew - a
name given him by The Rev. John Sprott. Matthew and Jane had 1
son and 1 daughter. (their farms adjoined)

born in Londonderry, Ireland on Jan. 22, 1745. His parents moved
to New England about 1757, then to Truro, N.S. on Dec. 13, 1762.
He was Town Clerk, Justice of the Peace for Colchester and
Pictou, Colonel of the Militia and land Surveyor. He settled in
Upper Musquodoboit in 1787 on the easter part of the “Matthew and
Robert Archibald” grant, now owned by Douglas Flemming, 1980.

inherited his fathers’ farm which was owned by his grandfather,
Robert. He md. Margaret (youngest dau. of Jonathan & Margaret
Archibald). She was a descendant of Samuel Archibald and Eleanor
Taylor. They were md. on Oct. 3, 1844. They had 6 sons & 1 dau.
