    Windows® 98 setup and INF download instructions

    The INF file which comes with Windows 98, provides configuration information such as resolution and refresh rates for many NEC monitors. If all  your hardware is Plug-and-Play, and your monitor is listed in the INF file  that came with your version of Windows 98, the monitor will be detected automatically, or you can select your monitor through the Display Properties dialog box. If your monitor is not listed in your current INF file, then an updated INF file can be downloaded from NEC Technologies web site.

    You can verify that the correct monitor was selected by the following:

    1. Right mouse click on the desktop (move the mouse cursor to an empty spot on the screen and click the right mouse button), A dialog box as shown at right will appear, select "Properties" and left mouse click to open the Display Properties dialog box.



    1. In the Display Properties dialog box, click on the "Settings" Tab. If your monitor is listed, it has been detected.

    If your monitor is not detected automatically, continue with "Selecting your monitor"



    Selecting your monitor

    1. Click on the "Advanced" tab

    2. Click the "Monitor" Tab to display the Properties dialog box.

    3. click the "Change" Tab to open the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box.

    4. Click "Next"

    5. Select "Display a list of all drivers in a specific location so you can select the driver you want" then click "Next"

    6. Select Show all hardware

    7. Select the manufacturer and model of your hardware device and click "Next".

    8. When you see the message Windows has finished installing the driver you selected for your hardware device click "Finish".

    Note: If a message is displayed informing you that a .ICM file could not be found, you can click on "Skip the file" and finish the installation. The ICM file is a color profile for your monitor and is not required by all users, if you are doing professional graphics design work, then you should download a new inf file that will contain the ICM file from the internet. You can do this by following the instructions in "Windows 95/98/2000 monitor "NECMon.zip" file Download Instructions".

    Note: If your monitor is not listed, close all dialog boxes and proceed to "NECMSINF.ZIP" file Download Instructions.

    TIP: You must unzip NECMSINF.ZIP to extract NECMon.inf after it has been download to your system. Record where you download the file on your hard drive, or download it to a floppy disk.

    1. Download NECMSINF.ZIP, (the Windows 95/98/2000 NEC-Mon.inf file) from NEC's Internet.

    2. To complete the download, follow the instructions displayed on your screen.

    3. When the download is completed, you need to unzip the file. If you do not have an unzip utility, one can be obtained from http://www.winzip.com/

    Proceed to Un-zip NECMSINF.ZIP

    The following example is using WinZip version 6.3 SR-1 (926) 32-bit.

    1. Double click on NECMSINF.ZIP

    1. At the WinZip Wizard - Welcome dialog box, click the  "Next" button.



    1. At the WinZip Wizard - Unzip (necmsinf.zip) dialog box, you will see the message Click "Unzip Now" to unzip to the selected folder. Select the destination folder on your hard drive, or save the file to a floppy disk by clicking the "Select different folder" button. Or accept the folder listed under "Selected Folder". Click the  "Unzip Now" button.



    1. At the WinZip Wizard - Unzip Complete dialog box, click the "Close" button.

    Proceed to "Installing the NEC-Mon.inf file to Windows 98"




    Installing the NEC-Mon.inf file to Windows 98

    1. Right mouse click on the desktop (move the mouse cursor to an empty spot on the screen and click the right mouse button), A dialog box will appear, select "Properties" and left mouse click to open the "Display Properties" dialog box.

    2. In the Display Properties dialog box, click on the "Settings" Tab.

    3. Click on the "Advanced" tab

    4. Click the "Monitor" Tab to display the Properties dialog box.

    5. click the "Change" Tab to open the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box.

    6. Click "Next"

    7. Select Show all hardware

    8. Select "Display a list of all drivers in a specific location so you can select the driver you want" then click "Next"

    9. Select the manufacturer and model of your hardware device and click "Have Disk".

    10. If you get the message  Windows is now ready to install the selected driver for this device, click "OK"

    11. Insert Disk. The disk labeled 'NEC MultiSync Monitor installation Disk' is now required. Click "OK" to continue.

    12. Copying Files.

    13. Windows has finished installing the driver you selected for your hardware device Click "Finish".
