    Update IP Tools PVME


    1. Scroll back up on the left side of the “Exploring - …” window to locate the “IPSupport” folder. Double click on that folder to open it up.

    2. Locate the “Pvme” window in that folder and double click on it to open it.

    3. Locate the “install.bat” procedure in that folder and double click on it to run it.

    4. Press any key in the “C:\WINNT\System32\CMD.exe” window to close it.

    5. Press the “Backspace” key once to back up one level of folders.

    6. Locate the “Tools” folder and double click on it to open it up.

    7. Locate the “install_full.bat” procedure in that folder and double click on it to run it.

    8. Press any key in the “C:\WINNT\System32\CMD.exe” window to close it.

    9. Close the “Exploring - …” window by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner of that window.

    10. Click on the “Start” button on the taskbar, and then select “Shut Down” from the pop-up menu.

    11. Make sure the “Restart” option is highlighted in the “Shut Down Windows” window, then click on the “OK’ button.

    12. Allow the computer to shut down and completely restart. It should log on automatically. This will verify that the autolog program is correctly set up.

    This completes the installation and setup of the final USCS software.

    *Netgear 56K Modem Router:

    1. Unpack the Netgear router and power supply.

    2. Place the router on top of the CPU unit and connect the power adapter to the router. Plug the power supply into a suitable AC outlet.

    3. Locate a short RJ45 network patch cable and plug one end into “LAN port 1” on the rear of the router.

    4. Looking at the back of the computer, connect the other end of the RJ45 cable into the RJ45 jack on the back of the “3Com” network card on the left.

    5. Locate the “TECS” and “ROUTER” labels. Place the “ROUTER” label on the “3Com” network card that the router is connected to, which is the one on the left. Place the “TECS” label on the “3Com” network that is on the right. It should not have anything connected to it.

    6. Locate the special “Manager” cable and a DB25 to DB9 adapter from the Netgear router box and connect the RJ45 end into the “Manager” port on the back of the router.

    7. Connect the DB25 to DB9 adapter to the DB25 port on the other end of the “Manager” cable, then plug the DB9 end into the COM2 port on the back of the PC. Looking at the back of the PC, COM1 is on the left and COM2 is on the right.

    8. To verify this connection, move the mouse pointer to the “Start” button and click once with the left mouse button. Move the mouse pointer to “Programs” on the pop-up menu, then to “Accessories” on the next menu, then to “HyperTerminal” on the next menu. Move the mouse pointer to the “HyperTerminal” program on the 4th menu, and click once.

    9. In the window asking for an area code and phone number type “865” in the “Area Code” field, and “9” in the field asking for a number to use to connect to an outside line. Then click on the “Close” button to continue to the next window.

    10. In the "Dialing Properties" window, click on the "OK" button

    11. In the "HyperTerminal" window, click on the "No" button.

    12. In the “Connection Description” window, type “Router Manager” in the “Name” field, and click on the “OK” button.

    13. In the “Connect To” window, select the COM port you are plugged into (either COM1 or COM2) and click on the “OK” button.

    14. In the “COM Properties” window, change the “Bits per second” to “9600”, and change “Flow Control” to “None”. The other fields should already be as follows: “Data Bits” set at 8, “Parity” set at “None”, and “Stop Bits” should read “1”. If they are not, change them to the values stated above, and then click on the “OK” button.

    15. Press the “Enter” key once, and you should get an “Enter Password:” prompt.

    16. Type “1234” for the password and press the “Enter” key. Only “xxxx” will show up.

    17. Type a “3” to select “Ethernet Setup” and press the “Enter” key.

    18. Type a “2” to select “TCP/IP and DHCP Setup” and press the “Enter” key.

    19. Press the space bar one time to change the “DHCP” field to “None”.

    20. Using the “Enter” key, move the cursor to the “IP address” field.

    21. Type “10.1.255.1” for the new “IP address” and press the “Enter” key.

    22. Type “255.255.255.0” for the “IP Subnet Mask” and press the “Enter” key.

    23. Press the “Enter” key four more times to get back to the “Ethernet Setup” menu.

    24. Press the “Esc” key.

    25. Type “99” and press the “Enter” key to end the session. The screen will clear.

    26. Close the “Router Manger” window by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner of the window.

    27. In the “HyperTerminal” window, click on the “Yes” button to disconnect session.

    28. In the next “HyperTerminal” window, click on the “Yes” button to save the “Router Manager” session.

    29. Move the mouse pointer to the “Start” button and click once. Select “Run…” from the pop-up menu.

    30. Type “c:\netgear\setup” in the “Open” field and click on the “OK” button.

    31. In the “Welcome” window, click on the “Next” button.

    32. In the “Choose Destination Folder” window, click on the “Next” button.

    33. In the “Select Program Folder” window, click on the “Next” button.

    34. In the “Setup Complete” window, click on the “Finish” button.

    35. Move the mouse pointer to the “Start” button again and click once, then select “Shut Down…” from the pop-up menu.

    36. In the “Shut Down Windows” window, make sure the “Restart” radio button is marked and then click on the “OK” button. This will reboot the computer and log on automatically.

    37. Move the mouse pointer to the new “FirstGear” icon now on the desktop and double click.

    38. The software should locate the router and display that information in a window titled “Find Router”. The “Router Name” field should not be blank. If that field is blank, locate Bill Christensen or Tony Nelms for help. If there is an entry in the “Router Name” field, move the mouse pointer to the “Return” button and click once.

    39. If a “Password” window pops up, type “1234” in the blank field, then click on the “OK” button.

    40. In the “FirstGear: Modem Router Configuration Utility” window, move the mouse pointer to the “Advanced” button and click once.

    41. In the “Advanced Router Configuration” window, move the mouse pointer to the “File” menu item and click once. Select “Open Configuration File” from the pull down menu.

    42. In the “Open” window, change the “Look in:” field to “Netgear”. This can be done by moving the mouse pointer to the small button with a folder and an arrow pointing up on it. Click on that folder three times. Make sure to click the button three times because there is another folder called “Netgear” on one of the previous lists. Next, double click on the “Netgear” folder.

    43. Move the mouse pointer to the “rm356m_v1.0.dat” file and click once to highlight it, and then click on the “Open” button.

    44. In the “Advanced Router Configuration” window, move the mouse pointer to the “Send to Router” button and click once. You may have to move the taskbar out of the way by clicking in it with the left mouse button and moving it to the left or right side of the screen. This will download those new settings to the router and reboot it. If a “Warning” window pops up, wait one minute, then move the mouse pointer to the “OK” button in the “Warning” window and click once.

    45. In the “Advanced Router Configuration” window, move the mouse pointer to the “Return to Main Menu” button and click once with the left mouse button.

    46. In the “FirstGear: Modem Router Configuration Utility” window, move the mouse pointer to the “Exit” button and click once.

    47. The router is now correctly configured. To verify this, move the mouse button to the “Start” button and click once, and then click on “Run…” in the pop-up menu.

    48. In the “Run” window, type “telnet 10.1.255.1” and press the “Enter” key.

    49. In the “Telnet – 10.1.255.1” window, at the “Password:” prompt, type “perceptics” and press the “Enter” key.

    50. The “RM356 Main Menu” screen should appear. This will validate that the new settings have been programmed into the router because one of those changes was to change the password from “1234” to “perceptics”.

    51. Type “99” at the “Enter Menu Selection Number:” prompt and press the “Enter” key.

    52. In the small “Telnet” window, click on the “OK” button.

    53. Close the “Telnet – (None)” window by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner of the window.

    54. The above steps will verify the correct installation of the Netgear 56K Modem Router.

    55. Click on the “Start” button then select “Shut Down…” from the pop-up menu.

    56. Make sure “Shut down” is selected, and then click on the “Yes” button. The computer will now shut down.

    57. Wait for the message in the “Shutdown Computer” window to say, “It is now safe to turn off your computer”, then turn off the computer and monitor.

    This completes the setup of the Netgear 56K Modem Router.
    If the computer is not shut down, shut it down now & turn it off. To finish the setup of the computer, make sure all the manuals, cables, etc. from the RocketPort, SMC EtherEZ, and *Bit3 boxes are placed into the large computer box. Lastly, if you have not already done this, write the serial numbers of the computer, RocketPort card, SMC EtherEZ card, and the *Bit3 card on the outside of the computer box.

    This completes the setup of the entire computer
