Command Prompt Shortcut w/scroll
Move the mouse pointer to the gray bar on the bottom of the screen, and click one time with the RIGHT mouse button. The gray bar is called the “Taskbar”
Select “Properties” from the pop up menu.
Click on the “Start Menu Programs” tab.
Click on the “Advanced” button.
Double click on the “Programs” item on the right side of the “Exploring – Start Menu” window.
Click one time on the “Command Prompt” item to highlight it, then click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Create Shortcut” from the pop up menu. A new copy of the “Command Prompt” will be created.
Click on this new “Command Prompt (2)” with the left mouse button to highlight it, then click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Cut” from the pop up menu.
Move the mouse pointer to an empty section of the desktop and click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Paste” from the pop-up menu.
Close the “Exploring – Programs” window by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner of that window.
Click on the “OK” button of the “Taskbar Properties” window.
Click one time on the new “Command Prompt (2)” icon on the desktop to highlight it, then click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Rename” from the pop-up menu.
Press the “end” key to move to the end of the line, then press the “Backspace” key 4 times to remove the “ (2)” from the title. Then press the “enter” key.
With the “Command Prompt” icon still highlighted, click one time on it with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Properties” from the pop-up menu.
Click on the “Layout” tab on the “Command Prompt Properties” window.
Press the “Tab” key one time to highlight the “Height” field of the “Screen Buffer Size” section.
Type “250” in that field, then click on the “OK” button.
Drive Share setup
Open the “Windows NT Explorer” by double clicking on that icon on the desktop.
On the left section of the “Exploring – (C:)” window, click one time on the “(C:)” drive, then click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Sharing…” from the pop-up menu.
Click on the “New Share” button.
Type “Drive_C” in the “Share Name:” field of the “New Share” window.
Type “Site inbound C drive” (or “Site outbound C drive” if this is an outbound unit) in the “Comment” field.
Click on the “Permissions” button.
Click on the “Add” button of the “Access Through Share Permissions” window.
Click one time on the “Administrators” item in the list in the “Names” section, and then click on the “Add” button.
Move the mouse pointer down to the down arrow in the “Type of Access:” field, and click one time
Select “Full Control” from the pull-down menu.
Click on the “OK” button.
Click on the “Everyone” item in the “Name” list to highlight it in the “Access Through Share Permissions” window, and then click on the “Remove” button.
Click on the “OK” button to close the “Access Through Share Permissions” window.
Click on the “OK” button to close the “New Share” window.
Click on the “OK” button to close the “(C:) Properties” window.
Click one time on the “(D:)” drive icon on the left side of the “Exploring - ..” window to highlight it, and then click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Sharing” from the pop up menu.
Repeat steps 75 through step 89 except replace references to “C” with “D”. This will share both drives C & D for administrator access, so the support people can dial in to the computer and upgrade software or correct problems.
Close the “Exploring – (C:)” window by clicking one time on the “X” in the upper right corner of that window.
Make sure the RJ45 cable is connected to the 3Com network card on the back of the PC, and plugged into a working network port.
To verify this, double click on the “Network Neighborhood” icon.
In the “Network Neighborhood” window, double click on the “Entire Network” icon.
In the “Entire Network” window, double click on the “Microsoft Windows Network” icon.
If there is an error message, the network is not fully ready yet and you must wait a little longer. Click on the “OK” button then close the other “Network Neighborhood” windows. Repeat the above steps starting from step 94.
Some or all of the various Perceptics workgroups should appear in the next window. Sometimes it may take a few minutes for these to begin to appear.
Close all three of the network windows by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner of each of them.
You may now remove RJ45 cable from the back of the computer.
This completes installation of the ancillary items.
Internet Explorer 4.0 installation:
Locate the “Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0” CD –ROM disk and load it into the CD-ROM drive.
When the “Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 CD” window comes up, select “Install Internet Explorer 4.0” from the screen by clicking on it one time.
Click “Next” in the “Internet Explorer 4.0 Setup” window.
Click on the radio button to the left of “I accept the agreement” then click on the “Next” button in the “License Agreement” window.
Make sure “Standard Installation” is selected in the installation type field, and then click on the “Next” button in the “Installation Option” window.
Make sure the radio button next to “Yes” is on in the “Windows Desktop Update” window, and then click the “Next” button.
Make sure “United States” is selected in the “Active Channel Selection” window, then click on the “Next” button.
Click the “Next” button in the “Destination Folder” window to accept the default.
The program and associated files are now copied to the computer. This may take a minute or so.
Once all the files are copied, a window telling you this pops up. Click on the “OK” button in that window. Now the initial system configuration is done.
When that is done, you must reboot the computer. Click on the “OK” button in the “Internet Explorer 4.0 Setup” window to reboot it.
When the computer is back up, log on to the “Administrator” account using the “perceptics” password.
During the log in process, IE4 is completely set up. If you see any error messages during this process, just click on the respective buttons to clear them. They are not important, and will only appear during this 1st boot.
Once the system is logged on, the screen background turns black and Internet Explorer 4 is started. Click on the “X” in the upper right corner of the “Welcome – Microsoft Internet Explorer” window to close it.
Remove the “Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0” CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive.
Move the mouse pointer to a blank portion of the desktop and click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select the “Active Desktop” menu item from the pop-up menu, then select “ View As Web Page” to uncheck that option. The screen now turns back to the normal Cyan color.
Move the mouse pointer to the “My Computer” icon on the desktop and double click on it to open it.
Move the mouse to the “View” menu item and click on it.
Click on the “ as Web Page” menu item from the pull-down menu.
Move the mouse to the “View” menu item again, and click on it.
Select “Folder Options” from the pull-down menu.
Click on the “View” tab.
Click on the “Show all files” item to select it, then click on the “Hide file extensions for known file types” to deselect it.
Move the mouse button up to the “Like Current Folder” button and click on it.
Click on the “Yes” button in the “Folder Views” window.
Click on the “OK” button in the “Folder Options” window.
Close the “My Computer” window by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner of that window.
The next several steps may need to be repeated more than once, depending on the results of the reboot.
Click on the “Start” button and select “Shut Down” from the pop-up menu.
Click on the “Restart” item so the computer will do a shut down and reboot without your intervention.
When the computer comes back, WAIT about 10 seconds to press the “Ctrl” “Alt” and “Del” keys to start the login process. This is necessary at this point.
Type “perceptics” in the password field, but WAIT about 10 seconds again before you press the “Enter” key or click on the “OK” button. The reason for these two delays is to allow the computer time to finish starting the other drivers and services. This will allow the new IE4 to start correctly.
Once you are fully logged on, the “Welcome – Microsoft Internet Explorer” program should start again. If the “Windows Explorer” program starts instead of IE4, you must shut down and reboot again. Repeat the above steps, starting with step 30.
Once IE4 starts correctly, and you have the “Welcome – Microsoft Internet Explorer” window, move the mouse pointer to the check mark to the left of “Show this next time you log in”, and click on it to turn the check mark off. This will stop IE4 from starting every time the computer is rebooted.
Close IE4 by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner of the “Welcome – Microsoft Internet Explorer” window.
This completes the installation and setup of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0.
NS/Portfolio installation:
Locate the “NetManage NS/Portfolio V3.1” CD –ROM disk and load it into the CD-ROM drive.
When the “NetSoft” window comes up, select “NS/Elite for Mainframe” from the screen by double clicking on it.
Click on the “Accept” button in the “NetManage License Agreement” window.
Click on the “Next” button in the “Welcome” window.
Click on the “Single User Installation” button in the “Installation Options” window.
Click on the radio button to the left of the “Shared Installation” line, to turn it on, and then click on the “OK” button in the “NetManage” window.
Click on the “Complete (recommended)” button in the “Single User Installation Method” window.
Click on the “Next” button in the “Installation Summary” window.
When the installation is done, click on the “Finish” button in the “Complete” window. The computer will now reboot. Ignore any “General Protection Fault” windows that pop up. They will go away & not come back.
When the computer is back up, log on to the “Administrator” account using the “perceptics” password.
Remove the “NS/Portfolio for Mainframe V3.1” CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive.
Double click on the “NS Elite” folder on the desktop to open it.
Double click on the “NS Administrator” icon in the “NS Elite” folder to start it.
Select the “Workspace” menu item in the “NS/Administrator” window.
Click on the “New” menu item from the pull-down menu, and then select “Workspace” from the next pop-up menu.
Click once on the “New Workspace” item that is put on the left side of the “NS/Administrator” window to highlight it, then click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Rename” from the new pop-up menu.
Type “USCS-LPR” as the new workspace name, then press the “Enter” key to accept the change.
With the “USCS-LPR” item still highlighted, select “Workspace” from the menu of the “NS/Administrator” window.
Select “New” from the pull-down menu, and then select “NS/Router 3270” from the new pop-up menu.
With the “New NS/Router 3270” icon highlighted, move the mouse pointer to it, and click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Rename” from the pop-up menu.
Change the name to “Inbound NS/Router 3270” (or “Outbound NS/Router 3270” for outbound units), then press the “Enter” key to accept the change.
With the newly renamed “xxxbound NS/Router 3270” still highlighted, move the mouse pointer over it and click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Properties” from the new pop-up menu.
In the “Properties for xxxbound NS/Router 3270” window, if the “AdaptSNA LAN Gateway” item is not highlighted, move the mouse pointer to the “AdaptSNA LAN Gateway” link item on the top of the and click one time on it to highlight it. DO NOT click on the “Properties” button in this window. The only purpose of this step is to set the link to “AdaptSNA LAN Gateway”.
The rest of the Router setup will be done when the computer is installed on site.
Click on the “OK” button in the “Properties for Inbound NS/Router 3270” window.
Select the “Workspace” menu item of the “NS/Administrator” window.
Select the “New” menu item from the pull-down menu, and then select “3270 Display” from the new pop-up menu.
With the “New 3270 Display” icon highlighted, move the mouse pointer over it and click one time with the RIGHT mouse button.
Select “Rename” from the pop-up menu.
Change the name to “Inbound Session” (or “Outbound Session” if this is an outbound unit), then press the “Enter” key to accept the change.
Close the “NS/Administrator” window by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner of that window.
Close the “NS Elite” folder by clicking on the “X” in the upper right corner of that window.
This completes the installation and setup of the NS Elite program.
Final USCS Software Installation:
Setup Autolog
Double click on the “Windows NT Explorer” icon on the desktop to open it.
Double click on the “Winnt” folder on the right side of the “Exploring – (C:)” window.
Locate and double click on the “System32” folder on the right side of the window.
Locate and double click on the “autolog.exe” program to start it.
Type “perceptics” in the “Password:” field in the “Windows NT Auto Logon Setter” window”, then click on the “OK” button in that window.
Click on the “OK” button in the “Auto Logon” window.
While still browsing the “System32” folder, locate the “Drwtsn32.exe” program and double click on it to start it.
Move the mouse pointer to the check mark to the left of the “Visual Notification” item in the “Dr. Watson for Windows NT” window, and click once on it to turn it off.
Click on the “OK” button in that window to close it.
