The Synchronize command in Outlook 97 and Outlook 98 synchronized all of the user’s Exchange Server Offline Folders. When users dial in using a modem or other slow link, such a synchronization can be time-consuming; as a result, some users tried to remember to manually synchronize the specific folders they wanted one at a time. Users wanted instead to be able to specify specific sets of folders and then synchronize them quickly with a single command.
Outlook 2000 allows users to create Synchronization Groups. For example, with a single menu command, users can easily synchronize only Inbox and Calendar folders, or they can synchronize any group of Exchange Server Public Folders that they only want to synchronize once a week while online instead of with their default synchronization. Quick Synchronization Groups are managed in the Offline Folder Settings dialog box tab shown in the following figure.
