This is a self-extracting compressed file with ESS audio\modem drivers for the HP Omnibook XE3-GC. The InstallShield Wizard(TM) will help install HP Notebook PC Windows Millennium Modem/Audio device driver package on your computer.
This driver release addresses an occasional audio noise/loss while browsing the Internet.
A very few units will present this problem. Unit will stop boot process on black screen with blinking cursor (upper left corner) just after the windows splash screen has disappeared. Issue may or may not be intermittent.
Download the web package to a temporary location on your hard drive.
Double click on the package to execute the installation. When executed, this package will automatically install the new driver and copy the updated files to your system at location C:\HP\Drivers\Audio for future reference. During the process of copying the files, the user may be prompted to overwrite files from a previous installation. In order to properly install the new driver, the user must respond, “Yes” or “Yes to All”.
At the end of the installation process the user will be prompted to restart the system. The user should choose 'Yes, I want to restart my computer now' and press Finish
Windows will automatically detect the new audio and modem drivers on your next boot.

This driver fixes a ten-units/week field boot problem in Windows. Symptom varied from occasional Windows boot problem to no Windows boot at all. For units that consistently fail, the customer may be able to enter safe mode and remove the current Audio Driver and then install the new one. We are also working on a CD that will automate the process of updating the driver to be sent to the user in last resort. Details:
