Gentran: Server for Windows

Purpose
The Gentran:Server Audit Notification Service contains functionality that can be used to generated Email Notifications, through MAPI or SMTP, and generate a page to specified pagers when specific criteria are met. Receiving Email Notifications or pages from Gentran:Server is a useful tool in quickly notifying users and administrators of potential problems.
Background
The MAPI functionality within Gentran:Server for Windows is supported with the following versions of Microsoft Outlook:
Gentran:Server for Windows 5.0
Outlook 98
Outlook 2000
Outlook 2002
Outlook 2003
Gentran:Server for Windows 5.1
Outlook 98
Outlook 2000
Outlook 2002
Outlook 2003

The SMTP functionality within Gentran:Server for Windows is only included within Gentran:Server for Windows versions 5.1 and 5.2.
Please keep in mind that Sterling Commerce is unable to help in the setting up or configuration of an Email Server, if you need guidance on this please see your Third party Email Server Documentation.
Prerequisites
There are a few things that will need to be done before getting started. Please check the below list to make sure that these prerequisites have been met before continuing.
Know which type of Email Server is on the network (Exchange Server or SMTP Server).
If using an Exchange and the SMTP option is unavailable the following will need to be configured:
Microsoft Outlook (98 or higher) must be installed on the Gentran Primary Controller.
You must be logged on to the Gentran server using the same User ID that is used to start the Gentran Services before doing any configuring.
Obtain the Server name and mailbox name.

If using SMTP (Available in Gentran Server 5.1 and above), please use the following steps.
Will you need to Authenticate with the SMTP server?
If yes, What is the username and password?
What is the SMTP server name and port?
What is the email address you will be using?
Start on SMTP Implementation instructions in this document.
Microsoft® Outlook® Implementation
Open Windows Services.
Select Start.
Select Settings.
Select Control Panel.
Select Services.
Scroll until you see Gentran Audit Notification Services.
Under the fifth column is the account that starts the services.
Select Start and Shut Down.
Choose Log off.
Log back in using the account shown under step 3.
For Outlook 98 or Outlook 2000 follow the New Email Setup for Outlook 98 and 2000 instructions. If Outlook has already been configured on any Windows Account then proceed to Configuring the Outlook 98 and 2000 Profile.
For Outlook 2002 or Outlook 2003 follow the New Email Setup for Outlook 2002 and 2003 instructions.
