CLOUD STORAGE IN EDUCATION

Such systems are criticized for weak generation and storage of user-
generated content and low level of integration with social networks. Some
teachers try to avoid the limitations that these systems impose on users. Instead
of the educational institutions of VLE-systems, they use educational tools
available for free on the web. Combining various
publicly available Internet
tools, they form more modern conditions for the cooperation of students, the
creation and sharing of their own learning content. There are also many
problems when each student creates his own personalized learning environment
(PLE), especially when the e-learning course includes tools for collaboration
and assessment. All VLEs have one common function that is difficult to repeat
by putting together applications hosted on different servers around the world —
this is the ability to provide specific content and functionality to groups of
students studying a particular course in a certain period of time.
Secondly, such learning has its advantages
in the form of a sense of
community and a sense of common purpose with fellow practitioners. In
addition, access to the learning environment is closed to spammers and
destructively minded users, which is especially important if students are
children.
Third, educational institutions may need to control some of the elements
of the educational environment for ethical, legal or business reasons. This may
be the provision of special opportunities for people with disabilities, resiliency,
the security of personal data or the promotion of their brand. And finally, there
is an advantage in that the educational institution has data on student access to
the system, so it can improve the quality of the services and content provided,
increasing the level of learning experience and student learning.

There are two polar approaches to how to provide e-education: at one
extreme
is the VLE based at the school, and at the other, the student-driven
personal learning environment created from many Web sites. However, a third
model has recently appeared that could potentially destroy both existing ones.
Two companies,
Google and Microsoft, began offering services to school
employees and students. These services replace or supplement the functions of
institute systems, such as e-mail, instant messaging,
scheduling; creation and
storage of personal documents, the provision of public access to them, the
creation of Web-sites. At the same time, the described systems are located at an
external service provider, in the so-called “cloud”.
The Google Cloud is a network of a million servers distributed across data
centers around the world that store multiple copies of the World Wide Web.
This large-scale distributed architecture makes search processing extremely fast,
and the whole system is extremely fault tolerant. It allows, after several years, to
carry out work on replacing individual servers with
faster machines without
reducing the overall performance. Google and several other companies with
very large high-speed distributed computer networks, such as Microsoft and
Amazon, realized that their computing resources could be valuable for other
organizations and should be made publicly available
for a wide range of
applications.
There are three main categories of cloud computing services using a
distributed equipment infrastructure. At the bottom level are computer resources
like Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud that provide organizations with the
ability to run their own Linux servers on virtual machines and, if necessary,
scale the load extremely quickly.
At the next level, developers can write
applications for architectures that are conditionally free. At the top level are the
cloud computing services that are most interesting for educational institutions,
they provide applications hosted in the cloud and accessible through a Web
browser. Storing not only data in the cloud,
but also applications, changes the
