Pasienter med KP bør monitoreres med tanke på å oppdage og håndtere ovennevnte komplikasjoner.

Pasientene kan ofte følges hos fastlege Pasienter med høyt symptomnivå, uhåndterlig ernæringssvikt eller der en tenker seg behov for endoskopisk eller kirurgisk intervensjon bør henvises til spesialiserte avdelinger med mulighet for multidisiplinær diskusjon/møter og behandling.
