    Problem Statement:
The inconvenience associated with manually activating or
deactivating water pumps installed in remote farms poses a widespread challenge for
farmers. Often, when it's time to irrigate their fields, farmers must halt their ongoing tasks
and journey to the farms to initiate the pump sets, wasting precious time and energy,
especially considering that many farms are situated far from their residences. Moreover,
the necessity of physical contact with the electrical systems has resulted in numerous
accidents within agricultural settings. Tragically, there have been reported instances of
farmers suffering fatal electrocutions while engaging with these systems. Additionally,
incidents involving snake bites and lightning strikes during pump operation further
underscore the dangers associated with this manual process. Furthermore, the need for
continuous monitoring of the field's physical condition necessitates frequent visits by the
farmer, adding to the already burdensome task. This repetitive endeavor demands
significant time and effort on the part of the farmer. All of the aforementioned challenges
stem from the traditional practice of physically attending the farm to toggle the motor on
or off, highlighting the urgent need for a more efficient and safer alternative.
    Solution Framework:
The proposed system offers a comprehensive remote
management solution for water pumps, leveraging mobile phone technology. This system
is adaptable for use with both smartphones, utilizing an Android application, and basic
feature phones, operating via SMS commands. Recognizing the limited internet
connectivity in many rural areas and the prevalent use of feature phones among farmers, a
GSM module has been integrated to enable SMS-based control (Fig 1).

By automating pump control through dedicated controllers, the need for manual
intervention to toggle the motor on or off is eliminated, streamlining operations and
reducing labor requirements. Additionally, the system incorporates sensors to monitor soil
moisture levels and field temperatures, providing real-time data to users. This information
empowers users to make informed decisions regarding irrigation without the necessity of
physically visiting the field, optimizing water usage and enhancing efficiency.
