Johnson Kaulback
In 1783, a number of German Protestant immigrants who had served
under Lord Charles Montague, arrived in Nova Scotia, via North
Carolina. Johnson Kaulback, the pioneer settler in Musquodoboit,
was a member of Montague’s Regiment, and as such, was eligible
for a land grant. 250 acres were granted to Johnson Colbach,
Nov. 4, 1812. (The name was spelled Colback, Colbach, Kaulback
and Kaulbach.) Johnson Colbach located on what has been the
Kaulback property for five generations. It was a stage coach
stop and hotel in early times, as well as post office until
1898. Owned by Hugh Kaulback, 1980.
