Assessment of changes in land cover and land use based on multispectral remote sensing
images in Ugam-Chotkal national nature park
Abstract.
The Ugom-Chotkal National Park was established in 1992 as a result of the reorganization of the Chotkal
Biosphere Reserve. Located in the Southern Tien-Shan mountain range, in the Chotkal mountain system, it is the largest
reserve in Uzbekistan. The national park was created to protect unique ecosystems and endangered animals. In this study,
a map of the changes in the land cover of the national park and the changes in precipitation in the corresponding years
during the years 2000-2020 was compiled based on satellite images. Land use/cover change (LULC) was calculated using
the Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC) supervised classification method. From the change of land cover, it can be
determined that the amount of vegetation has increased in the last two decades, while the snow cover has decreased. It was
also found that open land cover increased in the south of the National Park.
