Annotation. The main results of the article are the definition of the concept of “game”, the
advantages of using games, the study of the didactic potential of language games in English lessons,
a description of the main forms, types, functions of language games, and their classification. It is
shown that the game is one of the main types of educational activities. Games should be considered
additional activities. When selecting a game, the teacher must be careful to select a game that is
appropriate for the class in terms of language and type of participation. Once the game has started,
the teacher should not interrupt it to correct mistakes in the students' speech. The teacher should not
force a person to participate. Games are serious means through which we can create interesting
activities.
